NYBBS 2025 summer course

Further information about the 2025 summer course can be obtained from the Scottish Brass Band Association education officer John Boax at sbbaeducation@gmail.com

A payment plan has been introduced for those wishing to be at next year’s NYBBS summer course.
The move has been made in response to numerous requests to spread the cost of attending the week-long event.
If you would like to take up this option (which would not commit you to a place at this point), please email Julie at sbbatreasurer@gmail.com for further information.

The dates for the summer course 2025 will be slightly earlier than usual, starting on weekend of 19/20 July.

The National Youth Brass Bands of Scotland (NYBBS) offer young brass and percussion players aged from 9 to 22-years-old an opportunity to perform challenging, exciting and diverse brass repertoire while receiving guidance from an expert tutorial team.
The senior NYBBS is the premier level youth ensemble of the organisation and demonstrates the extraordinary musical talent which emanates from those involved. NYBBS is led by internationally renowned conductors including Musical Director Ian Porthouse. They are supported by a tutorial team of leading instrumentalists and clinicians, offering members a unique opportunity to learn from the very best.
NYBBS is regularly involved with high-profile performance opportunities with  engagements including the opening of the Scottish Parliament, the Perth Proms, the Aberdeen International Festival of Youth and a collaborative project at Celtic Connections in 2013. In 2014 NYBBS performed at the Cumnock Tryst Festival at the invitation of composer, Sir James MacMillian. NYBBS has enjoyed numerous international tours including acclaimed visits to Germany and Japan, showcasing the jewel in the crown of Scotland's young brass and percussion musicians to a global audience.

The National Youth Reserve Brass Band of Scotland

Conducted by John Boax, The National Youth Reserve Brass Band of Scotland (for players aged 14 -22 inclusive) is designed to nurture young musicians who are well on their way to reaching the high standards required by the premier level of NYBBS, or those awaiting a vacancy to arise in NYBBS. The band offers its members plenty of inspiration, support and opportunities to progress, guided by a collection of highly experienced musicians and additional performance opportunities, making it an ideal stepping stone up to the next stage.

The National Children's Brass Band of Scotland

Conducted by Alan Fernie, The National Children's Brass Band of Scotland provides a wonderful opportunity for young, less experienced musicians (aged 13 or under), to enjoy the pleasures of playing in a full band of like-minded enthusiasts.

The band is led and supported by a team of dedicated and experienced musicians, offering a perfect introduction to the wider world of brass band music and highlighting the many opportunities music can provide aspiring players.
