Kiernan Returns To Co-op

Following hard on the heels of the announcement of the return of cornetist Jim Hayes to its ranks, The Co-operative Funeralcare Band is pleased to announce the return of another former player in the person of trombonist Paul Kiernan. Paul will play with the band at the forthcoming _Land O_ Burns_ contest in Troon as a result of current principal trombonist, Gregor Stewart, being unavailable due to work commitments.

Paul_s pedigree as a trombonist is already well-known in Scottish brass band circles and beyond and his musical roots are firmly embedded within the brass band movement. He started playing at the age of thirteen and began his contesting career with the Kinneil Colliery Band at the age of seventeen. Over the next 20 years he established himself as one of Britain_s finest brass band trombone players playing with the Whitburn Band and the The Co-operative Funeralcare Band under its former name, the Scottish Co-op Band, where he graced the trombone section for 14 years. During this period he took part in some of the band_s finest performances. Paul is currently the Musical Director of the Clackmannan Band.

Speaking of his return to The Co-operative Funeralcare Band, Paul said _It_s about two years since I last played with the band and I_ve had a good break away. I am delighted to be back. The band is in good shape and I_m looking forward to playing again._

Clearly, the band are delighted at the return of a second seasoned campaigner to its team within such a short space of time and it is hoped that this augurs well for the season ahead.
