Results: Borders solos and ensembles
Wednesday 27 January 2016
WITH the season in full swing, performers have gathered in the Scottish Borders for the region's solo and ensemble contest.
The event, on Saturday, January 23, saw competitors gather in Teviot Church, Hawick, with qualifiers earning the right to perform at the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships on February 6 and 7.
A separate band contest was also held at the event, which was adjudicated by John Boax. He commented: "It was a great pleasure to be invited to adjudicate the Borders youth solo, ensemble and band contest in Hawick. From the very young players in the morning to the under 21s, it was clear that the Borders is thriving with young enthusiastic brass players.
"The organisers had put together a well structured day of competitions culminating in the youth band sections. It's clear that the area is in great shape, with very dedicated tutors and supportive parents, and that was reflected in the performances from the talented young players."
