Co-operative Funeralcare hosting test piece workshop

Wednesday 2 March 2016

Co-operative Funeralcare Band is to host a test piece workshop ahead of the Scottish Championships.

WITH the Scottish Championships fast approaching, the Co-operative Funeralcare Band is to host a test piece workshop giving competing bands the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

The event takes place on Wednesday, March 9 at 7.30pm in Motherwell Salvation Army Hall, Camp Street, ML1 1UF. In addition to getting some practice in front of a live audience, the bands will be put through their paces by adjudicator Nigel Boddice MBE, who will offer his thoughts on the performances.

Martin Stack, band manager at Co-operative Funeralcare Band, said: "There's no substitute for performing in front of an audience. This is a great opportunity for the bands involved to feel what it's like to play their respective test pieces with a little adrenaline thrown into the equation, which can change everything on the contest stage."

Anyone is welcome to attend the free evening of music-making, which will feature the following bands:

  • The Co-operative Funeralcare Band (Championship Section) | Cambridge Variations by Philip Sparke
  • The Bathgate Band (1st Section) | Essay by Edward Gregson
  • Irvine and Dreghorn Band (2nd Section) | The Mermaid of Zennor by Philip Harper
  • Newmains and District Band (4th Section) | The Journal of Phileas Fogg by Peter Graham
