Entries open for Whitburn Festival

BRASS and percussion players have been invited to take part in the 2016 Whitburn Festival of Brass, after details of the event were announced.
Taking place on Saturday, May 21, the festival will include solo contests for brass and percussion players, rounding off with an evening concert featuring all four bands in the Whitburn organisation.
Proceedings will be held in St Joseph’s Church, Whitburn, getting underway at 10am, with competitors looking to impress adjudicators Chris Bradley and Alan Fernie.
Competition categories include sections for 12 and under, 16 and under, 21 and under as well as open, percussion and slow melody sections.
The closing date for entries is May 15.
Entry costs £5 for the first class and £3 for any subsequent classes. Solo contest spectators can enter via a donation.
Tickets for the evening concert cost £5 or £2 for under 16s and are available at the door. Under 12s go free to the concert, which begins at 7.30pm.
