Tough at the top for Coalburn stalwart Susan
Friday 25 March 2016
AS Coalburn Silver Band was celebrating victory in the second section at the Scottish Championships, one of its tenor horn stalwarts was preparing for her new life in Australia.
Susan Tough is emigrating to be with her parents and sister, who made the trip a few years ago. An integral part of the band of the band's success, Susan played solo, first and second horn during her time with Coalburn and supported the percussion section. She also served as secretary and librarian.
She was recently made an honorary life member of Coalburn and was presented with several farewell gifts including a montage of photographs illustrating her time with the band.
Alan Court, president of Coalburn Silver Band, said: "It was fabulous for Susan to leave on such a high note and although we are sad to see her go, we are thankful for the time, commitment and service she has given to the band over the years and we wish her well in her new life in Australia."
Susan's departure comes as all the bands in the Coalburn organisation encourage new players to join them. The silver band is looking for a soprano cornet player while vacancies exist in all sections of the intermediate and bronze bands and the percussion academy.
The band has a full diary of events this spring, with more information available by logging on to the website.
