Euphonium player Scott Kerr took to the stage with Dunaskin Doon Band at the concert in Troon.

DELIGHTED audience members in Ayrshire have been left inspired after they were treated to a concert by euphonium star Scott Kerr.

The evening, which took place in Troon’s Concert Hall on April 23, saw Whitburn’s principal euphonium player impress in a concert with Dunaskin Doon Band.

Scott, who is studying for a Master’s degree in performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) in Glasgow, played a programme designed to show off the beauty and versatility of the euphonium. He also demonstrated some of the tricks and techniques he has developed over the years.

He opened with Apex, penned by Peter Meechan, and played from the balcony above the band. Repertoire also included Karl Jenkins’ It Takes Two, Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Neath the Dublin Skies and Devil’s Duel, also by Meechan.

Salt of the Earth Gospel, by Andy Scott, proved to be a hit before Scott joined forces with Dunaskin Doon’s solo euphonium player Fiona Waddington to play Me and My Shadow. The concert in Troon also offered Scott the opportunity to demonstrate his compositional talents.

A spokeswoman for Dunaskin Doon Band said: “We were honoured to perform in concert with Scott Kerr, one of the finest euphonium players of his generation. Not even a power outage was able to prevent him shining throughout.

“His playing was goosebump stuff, it was so good. We thoroughly enjoyed working and performing with Scott, and look forward to more joint projects in the future.”
