Busy spell for Coalburn
Tuesday 17 May 2016
THE busy period continues for the Coalburn Brass Band family as the organisation finds itself in the midst of a series of concerts and engagements.
Coalburn Silver Band is one of several groups which came together to join in the Queen’s 90th birthday concert in Lanark Memorial Hall, where it helped raise £1,000 for Poppy Scotland.
Coalburn was joined by Lanark and District Pipe Band, The Choir of St Mary’s, Lanark Grammar School Drama Department, and both juniors and seniors from Lanark Panto Club. The concert saw the band use two new instruments purchased with support from the Asda Carrier Bag Community Grants programme.
Hosted by entertainer Edward Reid, the concert at the end of April was well received by the capacity audience.
Alan Court, Coalburn Silver Band president, said: “The band was thrilled to be invited to this prestigious event and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful reception from the enthusiastic audience.
“It was also nice to support the work of Poppy Scotland and we look forward to fundraising for the organisation in the future.”
The concert comes during a busy period for the South Lanarkshire band, with attention turning to Low Parks Museum Open Day in Hamilton and a movie themed concert in Livingstone Memorial Church, Blantyre on Saturday, May 21.
The event will also feature Coalburn Bronze Band and Mitchell Kinnen from Bright Lights Theatre.
Tickets are available on the door and cost £5. Proceedings get underway at 7.30pm.
