Campbeltown Brass set for 1,000 mile round trip
Wednesday 7 September 2016
CAMPBELTOWN Brass has stepped up its musical and fundraising efforts ahead of a 1,000 mile round trip to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
The third section Scottish champion, which consists of a band three quarters of whom are under the age of 18, enjoyed a weekend of rehearsals with Yamaha Artist Russell Gray. He performed as guest soloist in concert with the Kintyre band and Musical Director, Gordon Evans MBE, as well as working with members of the beginner, junior and senior bands.
Campbeltown Brass has also been busy fundraising ahead of the mammoth journey to the National Finals in Cheltenham.
Members staged a coffee morning in the local town hall and a crowdfunding campaign is underway as the band attempts to raise the money necessary to attend the prestigious event.
Katrina Barr, cornet player, said: “Everyone is working really hard to help the band reach the National Brass Band Championships, with musical and fundraising preparations well underway.
“We were delighted to welcome Russell Gray to Campbeltown. He was able to bring out the best from everyone and gave the players a real boost.”
Katrina continued: “With a round trip of around 1,000 miles plus accommodation costs, a lot of hard work is underway to help make the trip possible.
“Around 18 of the players who take to the stage for the contest will be under the age of 18 so we would be grateful for support from anyone who can help them enjoy what will be a musical experience to treasure."
