History in the making at Tullis

THE Tullis Russell Intermediate Band is to make its own bit of history as it prepares to take to the stage at the Fife Charities Open Contest.

Three generations of the same family will perform with the Fife band at the competition in the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy, on September 24.

Cameron Hamilton will make his contest debut on cornet after spending two years developing in the Tullis Russell Youth Band. The 13-year-old's progress during that time has earned him the opportunity to play with one of the organisation's contesting bands.

He will be joined on stage by his mum, Karen, who plays soprano cornet and grandad, Chic Masson, who plays euphonium. Cameron's dad, Paul, will also be on stage at the competition as he performs with Tullis Russell Mills Band.

A spokesman for Tullis Russell Intermediate Band said: "It is great to see young players coming up through the youth band set up and being able to slot into the next level of band at Tullis.

"Also making his contest debut will be Aidan McCallum, who has moved instrument to cover one of the bass parts due to holidays. Aidan has also come up through the youth band system at Tullis and we are very proud of him."

The Tullis Russell organisation is no stranger to family ties and can boast six married couples playing in the two contesting bands, three families with three or more players in the organisation and four brother and sister combinations.
