On November 26 and 27, more than 30 youth bands will perform in Perth Concert Hall at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships. Youngsters will also be able to benefit from a series of free workshops offering hints and tips from leading musical figures.

Supported by Creative Scotland, the events will include workshops from NYBBS’ Musical Director Russell Gray on conducting, tenor horn virtuoso Sandy Smith will offer an insight into succeeding in the art of performance and Alasdair Rankin will lead a percussion workshop. Leading exponents of the PBone will be among those on hand offering their expertise, as will Besson Scottish solo champion and BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award finalist, bass trombone player Kyle MacCorquodale.

John Boax, SBBA education officer, said: “The Scottish Festival of Brass will offer a truly immersive experience for young brass and percussion players.

“As well as performing in one of the country’s leading concert halls, they will have fantastic opportunities to learn from leading performers, conductors and educators in a series of free workshops.

“With so much going on and a chance to hear leading championship bands performing at the Scottish Open, the Scottish Festival of Brass is an event not to be missed.”

Exhibition stands will be situated in the Perth Concert Hall foyer selling instruments, sheet music and accessories, with spaces still available for interested companies.

The Scottish Festival of Brass also incorporates the Band Supplies Scottish Challenge, which is taking place in Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall on November 19, beginning at 9.30am.
