Workshop a success in the south west
Thursday 27 October 2016
MORE than 50 bandsmen and women have gathered in Dumfries and Galloway for a packed day of music making, thanks to the newly formed South West Scotland Brass Band Association.
The event on October 9 saw a main band led by Alan Fernie in Kirkcudbright Academy, while Stuart Black led a group for less experienced players.
Those taking part, who came from Annan, Dumfries, Sanquhar, Creetown and Sranraer bands, had a full morning and afternoon of intensive rehearsals, with music by Philip Harper, James Ord Hume and Alan himself before the day came to a thunderous conclusion with a performance of the Heroic March from Percy Fletcher's Epic Symphony.
Commenting on the event, Alan said: "It was simply a splendid day's music making and I hope the players got as much from it as I did.
"The standard was excellent, and they are all a credit to their own bands. Thanks to Emma Johnstone and the committee of the new association for making it happen."
It is hoped to organise another workshop for spring 2017.
