Workshops galore at Scottish Festival of Brass

Thursday 17 November 2016

THE Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has unveiled a busy schedule of education workshops ahead of the 2016 Scottish Festival of Brass.

Leading musicians and educators including Russell Gray, Sandy Smith and Besson Scottish solo champion Kyle MacCorquodale will deliver the events at the Band Supplies Scottish Challenge on November 19 and the Scottish Open and Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships on November 26 and 27.

Conducting, solo playing, performance and preparation are among the topics being explored during the sessions, which are supported by Creative Scotland.

John Boax, SBBA education officer, said: "The Scottish Festival of Brass will feature lots of fantastic performances but while they are not in the hall, bands and audience members are very welcome to get involved in the busy array of workshops planned across the two weekends.

"There is so much to enjoy at each of the events so I would encourage everyone to come along with an instrument, whether or not they are playing at the contests, and get involved in what will be some fantastic workshops."

Other sessions include PBone workshops with Chris Fower, Bach to Basics with Scott Kerr and an instrument maintenance workshop led by Euan Meikle.

All sessions are free to attend.
