Johnstone hosts successful Brass Day

Thursday 12 October 2017

On Saturday 7 October, Johnstone Band hosted Brass Day 2017 at Tweedie Hall in Linwood, a free event featuring performances by the Johnstone Band, JP Berrie Big Band, Brass, Aye? and Levern Valley Community Brass. Each group played to a changing audience throughout the afternoon, with all four performances enjoyed by many.

Tweedie Hall had plenty of space available for workshops and both young and experienced players had the opportunity to learn from two highly talented musicians, Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) principal trombone Davur Juul Magnussen and Whitburn Band principal cornet Chris Bradley.

There were several opportunities to learn from two highly talented musicians - Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) principal trombone Davur Juul Magnussen and Whitburn principal cornet Chris Bradley. There were several opportunities to prepare for the Big Brass Finale which were hosted by Marcus Britton, assisted by Mark Good. Local brass instructors Caroline Tennant and Michael Howie were on hand with support and opportunities to try out the brass instruments, as well as adding to performances.

There were RSNO prizes available following Davur's 'Find Your Voice' session which was great fun. Chris shared his performance tips while Marcus provided insight into his arrangements, which was something different for many of the brass enthusiasts in attendance. In the foyer, local bands brought information stands and Raymond Tennant from Band Supplies was on hand with instrument advice and supplies.
