Newmains bolsters its ranks ahead of Cheltenham return

Newmains and District Band, reigning National 4th Section Champion and current Scottish 3rd Section Champion band, has added to its ranks ahead of its imminent return to Cheltenham.

The band has been strengthened by the addition of Richard Pugh, Morgan Tait and Fiona Devlin to the cornet section while Malcolm Vannan moves from cornet to take up the flugel seat.

Musical Director Michael Marzella commented: “The Newmains band family is delighted to welcome these talented, high-quality players to the team, as we look forward to our visit to Cheltenham.”

Newmains en route to Scottish 3rd Section title in March

The band is also keenly anticipating a return visit from Michael's daughter, Katrina (Black Dyke Band) who will work with her dad and the players in their preparation for the National Finals. 

Michael also revealed that the band have exciting plans to work with Katrina as guest soloist in a world première version of Silver Rose, the stunning composition by Liz Lane. Full details will be announced after the National Finals appearance.
