Connecting during the Corona crisis – Bon-Accord Silver Band

Thursday 2 April 2020

Continuing our feature on how Scottish bands are staying connected during the Coronavirus pandemic, we take a look at Bon-Accord Silver Band:

Bon-Accord Silver Band was founded in 1962 by the late Stewart Watson and has since become the leading brass band in the north of Scotland. We are delighted to have achieved 2nd place in the regional championships in Perth in March, qualifying to play in the national finals at the Royal Albert Hall this October.

During the Coronavirus lockdown, players are creating a “virtual concert series”, compiling their favourite banding pieces into a programme for the rest of the band to listen to twice a week to replace our rehearsals. Also a “Band Q&A” is also currently taking place on our Facebook page.

This gives our members and supporters an opportunity to find out more about our players. We are also planning an online quiz night on Wednesday evening, testing our players’ brass band knowledge.

To replace our rehearsals on Mondays and Wednesdays, we are staying in daily contact via our WhatsApp group which helps to maintain the momentum of the band that has been built over the years.

We wish that everyone from the banding world is staying safe during this trying time.

• Let SBBA know about your band. Tell us about some of your successes, when you were founded, where and when you rehearse (when things are back to normal), and how your members are coping during the Coronavirus emergency situation.

Just send a couple of photos and a short write-up to Nigel Martin at sbbapr@gmail.com
