Connecting during the Corona crisis – Coalburn Silver Band

Wednesday 22 April 2020

Entering the spotlight in our ongoing series on how Scottish bands are staying connected during the Coronavirus pandemic is the Coalburn Silver Band:

Coalburn Silver Band was formed in 1902 and our present day banding family has expanded to include four ensembles: the Silver Band, the Intermediate Band, the Bronze Band and Percussion Academy. We rehearse in our own band hall which provides a modern, bright and welcoming feel to our 80+ membership.

The 2020 Scottish Championships in March was a historic moment for us, as it was the first time in our 118-year history where we had two competing bands on stage – the Silver and Intermediate Bands appearing in the 1st and 4th sections respectively. It is testament to our youth development that many of the players who performed on stage in both bands have progressed through the band structure.

During the Coronavirus, isolation our members remain busy in the safety of our homes by continuing to practice and have been using various social media platforms to socialise.

The whole Coalburn Brass Band family extend their best wishes to all its supporters and fellow bands throughout the UK during this unprecedented time. We hope that we can resume rehearsals and perform for our audiences as soon as it is safe to do so.

For further information or to make contact with the band, please get in touch through the Coalburn Silver Band Facebook page or website www.coalburnsilverband.co.uk

• Let us know about your band. Tell us about some of your successes, when you were founded, where and when you rehearse (when things are back to normal), and how your members are coping during the Coronavirus emergency situation.
