West of Scotland appeal to enable the entertainment show to go on
Friday 19 June 2020In light of the current government guidelines regarding COVID-19, the West of Scotland Area Committee has decided, in a meeting via Zoom, to cancel this year’s WoS Entertainment Contest and concentrate on planning the next event, scheduled for 28 August 2021.
The committee has asked South Ayshire Council for support in this venture and has applied to book the Walker Halls in Troon for this date.
However, it is still planned to mark this year’s contest as a way of encouragement and also to keep the contest date in the diary. As a few individuals and bands have already recorded pieces and uploaded to YouTube, the area committee has come up with a couple of ideas:
- Would your band be interested in recording a piece of music which would be sent to the committee to upload to social media on the contest date, offering the public a chance to vote?
Please let Lesley Crumlish bsisecretary@outlook.com know by 1 July if this is something your band would be interested in.
- Secondly, would any individual player in a West of Scotland band be interested in helping to form a WoS Virtual Band?
Again, could West of Scotland band secretaries let Lesley bsisecretary@outlook.com know if any of your players are interested in this virtual band by 1 July.
After this date, Lesley will send out further information regarding these proposals if they are deemed viable.
* The WoS committee had already made plans to move the Area Youth Solos and Ensembles Contest from October to the beginning of next year prior to COVID-19 becoming a pandemic. It is now planned to take place on Saturday 6 February 2021 at the Salvation Army in Paisley.
Please note: These two events will only take place if there are sufficient entries and provided any government guidelines that may still be in place can be met.
