West Coast ladies look to form all-female brass group

Friday 23 April 2021

Inspired by other all-female brass groups around the UK – including friends at Fife Ladies – like-minded musicians held an informal meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a West of Scotland version with the aim of raising money for charity through a handful of performances every year.

Lesley Crumlish, SBBA executive committee member and West of Scotland Area Association secretary, was joined online by trombonist Sharon Ross and euphonium player Fiona Waddington, both of Dunaskin Doon Band, Renfrew Burgh cornetist Myra Mack and Brass Sounds Inverclyde euphonium player Beth Paton to explore the steps involved in turning this oft-mooted idea into reality.

“We would love to hear from female brass and percussion players, aged 19 and over, who are associated with a West of Scotland band, either contesting or non-contesting, who would like to join us,” says Fiona. “Players who are resident in the WoS area are also welcome.”

If you meet the criteria and are interested, you are requested to send a short email including your name, preferred instrument and current banding status to wosabba1@outlook.com in the first instance.
