Russell Gray takes Coalburn players through his rehearsal technique
Tuesday 26 July 2022Coalburn players welcomed renowned cornetist, conductor and tutor Russell Gray to their band hall where he took the musicians through his Messanoic method of rehearsal.
Russell’s method focuses on sound, intonation, dynamic control, breathing, articulation and improving focus and rhythm. It is designed to help ensembles develop a sense of togetherness in the way they respond to the music they see in front of them, cultivating a singular mindset.
“The Coalburn banding family is indebted to Yamaha for the opportunity to work with Russell,” said band president Alan Court. “A huge thank you to them both for delivering this session.”
Music from Norwegian composer Frederick Schjelderup was worked on during the session.
Alan added: “We look forward to recommencing rehearsals across all ensembles in August following the forthcoming National Youth Brass Band of Scotland summer course where a total of 12 Coalburn players will participate.”
