Two young players from the organisation – cornet Nathanael Ramsay and euphonium Malcolm Ormrod (who was allocated the principal seat) – were in the Children’s band and a further four – cornets Tilly Trickey and Ben Coulter, baritone Hannah Archibald and trombone Samuel Ramsay – took their seats in the Reserve band.
Three of Coalburn’s contingent in the Senior band – Anna Biggart (trombone), Gregor Koziel (soprano) and Calum Blair (cornet) – attained principal seats. Marcie Boyle, Aileen Orr and Eilidh Court made up the talented team in the band.
Band president Alan Court commented: “We are so incredibly proud of our talented members and how many of our young players are eager to improve and represent our organisation. We couldn’t be more thrilled.
“Our players put on an amazing show at the end of the hard-working week at the Albert Halls in Stirling, where friends and family were able to watch live for the first NYBBS summer course since 2019.”
Included in the Reserve band concert was piece of music, entitled Slaidburn Goes Brazilian, arranged and directed by Coalburn Silver conductor Gareth Bowman.
Earlier in the week, Coalburn members had a great showing at NYBBS Got Talent in the theatre of Strathallan School. Nathanael Ramsay wowed the audience with how fast he could solve a Rubik’s cube, with help from his glamorous assistant Malcolm Ormrod. Players came together with conductor Gareth Bowman to perform his arrangement of rock anthem Heaven by Bryan Adams in which he showed his gymnastics skills during the piece and played cowbell accompaniment.
