Write a modern fairy tale and have the story turned into music

Thursday 25 August 2022

Broxburn & Livingston Band has launched a fairy tale writing competition in which the prize is to have the winning story turned into a musical performance.

The band is inviting entries from school-age children for short stories which will hopefully have ‘happy ever after’ endings.

The winner will have their tale commissioned into a piece of music to be performed by Broxburn & Livingston Band at a Christmas concert in the Strathbrock Community Centre, Broxburn, on Sunday 11 December.

Entries, up to 500 words long, will be judged in three categories: Primary 1-3, Primary 4-5 and Primary 6-7.

Two stories from each category will be shortlisted with one overall winner being chosen for the basis of a new composition by young Scottish composer lain Mundy. Prizes will be awarded for all the shortlisted stories. First prize will include free tickets to the concert and premiere of the musical item.

Closing date for the competition is Friday 23 September 2022. To submit your fairy tale and for full terms and conditions, please visit the band website at www.broxburnandlivingstonband.co.uk or scan the QR code in the poster below.
