Saturday 27 August 2022

Congratulations to Dalmellington Band who walked away with the first prize after an impressive display of brass musicianship at the West of Scotland entertainment contest today.

Taking the runner-up spot was Kingdom Brass and in third place was Kirkintilloch Kelvin.

Coalburn Silver was the leading first section band and Broxburn & Livingston the top second section band. Shotts St Patrick’s took the best third second band prize.

The James and Mary Stewart Award for the most entertaining band went to Coalburn Silver. The band’s bass section was adjudged the best and was awarded the Alex McCutcheon Quaich.

Two bands  – Irvine & Dreghorn and Renfrew Burgh – had withdrawn before the contest began.

Alan Fernie was the adjudicator and Ralph Riddiough was master of ceremonies.

Members of Brass Sounds Inverclyde ran a cafe at the event as a fundraising effort towards their forthcoming Cheltenham trip.

Ralph commented afterwards: “At today’s contest in sunny Troon there were some stonkingly good performances. Dalmellington were fabulous and grabbed it by the scruff of the neck from the off. Well done on the win at the contest you ran for so many years!”
