Sudden and untimely passing of KKB bass player

Monday 29 August 2022

Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass has been greatly saddened to hear of the sudden and untimely death of one of its members, Ken Ramsay, on 23 August.

Ken played Eb bass with KKB since 2004 and before that was with The Kirkintilloch Band from 1991.

He started his playing career at the age of 14 with Clydebank Burgh Band with whom he won his first contest at the Edinburgh Charities, gaining the best bass section award in the process.

His success on the contest stage continued throughout his career, with notable wins at the Grand Shield and Scottish Championships with Kirkintilloch in 2001 and 2002 and winning the first section with KKB in 2009 and 2011.

His commitment to banding was second to none. He had a quick wit, cheerfulness and kindness that led to him being loved and respected across the Kirkintilloch organisations.

The band’s thoughts are with his wife June, daughter Ali, sons Andrew and Cameron and the whole family.
