St David’s Brass heartbreak after mindless vandalism in band hall

Tuesday 6 September 2022

Members of St David’s Brass have been left heartbroken after mindless vandals broke into their band hall and went on a wrecking spree which left £5000 worth of damage to instrument and uniforms.

The second section band's rehearsal facilities were in the process of being refurbished and possessions had been carefully packed into boxes.

The dreadful news was broken on the St David’s Brass Facebook page which announced: “Obviously this is a very frustrating and heartbreaking thing to have happen and we would appeal to anyone who is local to the hall who may have seen anything or who perhaps has any CCTV that looks on to the hall or near it to double check and see if they have any footage that might help identify those involved.”

Offers of help and support have flooded in from the Scottish banding community, for which the band is extremely grateful.

As a result the band has set up a Give As You Live fundraising page through which donations can be made to help with the recovery process.

“We would like to once again thank everyone for their kind words of support and encouragement, both on Facebook and also in person at events we have been at. Once again we thank the local community and also the wider banding community for their kind words and support!”

Band secretary Alister Taylor commented: "They've taken the uniforms and dragged them through mud in the grounds and broken musical instruments. I even found a tuba which was thrown into the bushes outside.

"Some instruments were smashed off walls. I have never seen anything like it. We are overcome with shock and anger. We were about to spend money from fundraising transforming the space for the public but we are worried we can't do that now."

Anyone wishing to donate to St David’s recovery efforts can do so via Give As You Live.
