Momentous weekend for Kirkton Brass Bathgate

Sunday 11 September 2022

It was a doubly momentous occasion for Kirkton Brass Bathgate when it took part in two public engagements last weekend.

On Friday (2 September) evening, not only did the band stage its first concert under its new name, the event also took place at the newly-named Jim Walker Partnership Centre, so called after the band’s late president Jim Walker who passed away in 2021.

Jim had been involved with the band since its inception in 1987. The concert also featured Kirkton Youth Band with many of the young players making their debut public performance.

Two days later, both bands donned their uniforms again to take part in Party in the Park at Kirkton Park in Bathgate – an outdoor family fun day and music festival featuring a varied selection of live music and other attractions.

The arch and Stuart Gates at the entrance to Kirkton Park are the symbols that the band based its new logo on as part of a rebrand in 2022, so it was all the more fitting that this first outdoor concert under new name was held in this venue.

The band is keen to fill vacancies for Bb bass, 3rd cornet and tuned or untuned percussion and anyone interested should contact Kirkton Brass Bathgate through its Facebook page.

Kirkton Youth Band is also keen to attract new players and both bands rehearse on Monday evenings in Bathgate.
