St Ronan’s reunited with David McLeod as MD for a third stint
Wednesday 14 September 2022St Ronan’s Silver Band has appointed David McLeod as musical director with immediate effect for a third stint in charge after announcing that Simon Railton has stepped down as conductor.
“Simon has served the band for the last year and played an important part in the band's recovery from the hiatus caused by the pandemic,” said band chair Claire Bell.
“We would like to thank him for all his work with the band and wish him well for the future.”
She added: “We have been very fortunate to have been able to bring in David McLeod as MD. He will bring his extensive experience and creativity to the role and we are looking forward to working together.”
David was musical director of St Ronan’s from 2002-05 and again in 2010-11. Born in Hawick, he is a third generation brass player. A graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, he worked as a brass instructor and for a period was a local authority Head of Instrumental Teaching.
Until recently he was a musical director and trumpet player for Royal Caribbean International, travelling the world performing and directing on cruise ships. He now works back closer to home for Scottish Borders Council as a brass instructor.
David’s playing and conducting has taken him all over the world and has seen much contest success with bands in all sections – something he hopes will continue!
When not conducting bands he can still be found playing in theatres, big bands, orchestras and ensembles of all types and sizes.
David commented: “I'm delighted to be reunited with the band and look forward to another successful partnership as we look towards various playing opportunities.”
The band is keen to recruit solo cornet players and a 2nd euphonium player at this exciting time. Anyone interested should contact secretary@stronanssilverband.org for further details.
