Fife Charities contest returns after absence of three years

Thursday 6 October 2022

The first Fife Charities contest in three years is taking place on Saturday. This 75th annual competition to be organised by the Fife Charities Band Association will be staged at the Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline, starting at 11am.

A change of date has unfortunately clashed with local holidays, leading to a drop in the number of entries. However, there will be six bands taking part, each performing an own-choice march, hymn and test piece.

Competing bands are Kingdom Brass (championship), Bo’ness & Carriden, Granite City and Lochgelly (first section), Broxburn & Livingston (2nd section) and Bon-Accord ‘B’ (4th section).

Adjudicators are John Boax (for march, hymn and test piece) and Carole Ednie (for individual awards).

Test pieces selected by the bands are:

Fraternity (T. Deleruyelle)

Tallis Variations (P. Sparke)

Traversada (O. Waespi)

Trittico (J. Curnow)

Variations on Maccabaeus (K. Norbury)

Viking Age (T. Deleruyelle).

Come along and support this contest – entry is free of charge and there’s plenty of free parking!
