Challenge heralds two weekends of brass celebration at Scottish Festival

Friday 11 November 2022

The Scottish Festival of Brass gets under way tomorrow in the Perth Concert Hall with the Band Supplies Scottish Challenge contest.

The day starts at 9.30am after an 8.30am draw for order of play. With an entry of 20 bands, there will be a split draw with the second taking place at 12 noon.

Adjudicators for the competition will be Sandy Smith and Alan Fernie.

Band performances during the contest will be video and audio recorded. However, the adjudicators’ comments and results will be broadcast live on SBBA’s YouTube channel, Facebook and Twitter. The link to the site is available here.

All performance videos are being offered to bands after the event for a fee of £20 each, payable to SBBA treasurer Julie Nicoll. YouTube video links will then be shared with respective bands by email.

Following tomorrow’s competition the Scottish Festival of Brass continues with the Scottish Open, supported by Besson, on Saturday 26 November and the Scottish Youth Championships on Sunday 27 November.

Again these performances will be recorded for release at a future date. Adjudicators' remarks and results will be livestreamed here and here respectively.

But there is nothing like being there in person to hear the live performances, so why not get along to Perth Concert Hall to enjoy what the venue describes on its website as “the largest festival of brass music in the UK with over 1000 players from Scotland's youth bands and senior bands from Scotland and beyond”.

Ticket prices are £14.50 (inc £2.50 booking fee per ticket) per day bookable via the Perth Concert Hall website.
