Stephanie Kennedy joins the cooperation band on flugel horn
Friday 25 November 2022the cooperation band has announced that Stephanie Kennedy has joined the Glasgow-based outfit on flugel horn.
Stephanie studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland before continuing her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, under the tutelage of Prof Kristian Steenstrup where she gained her Masters in Music & Orchestra Performance.
She has since moved back to Glasgow and has enjoyed a rewarding career performing, conducting and teaching across Scotland.
Stephanie works regularly with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Opera Orchestra as well as being a trumpet tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Juniors Department.
She also worked closely on a new Theatre Project with Lepus and most recently became a K&G Mouthpieces Ambassador.
Stephanie grew up in Campbeltown and progressed through the ranks of Campbeltown Brass Band – one of the most isolated bands in the country – to become the band’s principal cornet.
From there she joined the Kirkintilloch Band on repiano, progressing to principal cornet and leading the band to many contests including the Scottish Championships, British Open and National Championships of Great Britain.
Stephanie was also part of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) from the age of 10, and enjoyed many summers on its course under the baton of Richard Evans. This led to many exciting performances, including a prestigious tour of Japan in 2008. On becoming principal cornet, she was the first person to receive the Philip McCann Cornet Award.
