Friday 20 January 2023

Northern Counties is the first Scottish banding association to stage its solo and ensemble contest this year. Whitburn Band’s flugel soloist Caroline Farren was the adjudicator at the event last weekend.

The winner of the Junior section was Amy Fotheringham on cornet (above with NCBBA president Jim Wishart and adjudicator Caroline Farren) while Ruth De-Villiers (trombone) won the Intermediate section (pictured below) and Christopher Parke (Eb bass) was the winner in the Youth section.

In the first Slow Melody competition for a number of years, Thomas Kobine (Eb horn) took the top spot.

The next event in the NCBBA calendar is the Open Entertainment Contest on Sunday 28 May at the North Inch Community Campus, Gowans Terrace, Perth PH1 5BF.

Entry forms are available from association president Jim Wishart by emailing him at ncbba.president@gmail.com or by visiting the Events section on the SBBA website.

The West of Scotland solo and ensemble contest and the Borders event will take place on Saturday 4 February and a week later the South West Scotland event will be held in Creetown, Dumfries and Galloway.
