Arbroath & Carnoustie Band’s first concert under its new name last Friday evening was special in more ways than one.

The music for the 'A Night at the Movies' concert included themes from Last of the Mohicans, James Bond, Star Wars and many more. The band was conducted by Michael Robertson, deputising for Audrey Bird who was not well.

Players were joined by Arbroath Future Brass and the Intermediate Band under the direction of Ann Ness as well as the Friends Choir from Arbroath. And for the concert finale, Highland Cathedral, three pipers from Arbroath British Legion Pipe Band stepped up on stage.

Northern Counties Brass Band Association president Jim Wishart attended on behalf of SBBA to spring a surprise presentation to band secretary Shirley Bennett of a life membership medal for over 40 years service to brass banding.

Shirley joined Arbroath Band to play euphonium in 1981 when her father Rob Johnstone, also a SBBA life membership recipient, was a bass player.
