40-round challenge completed by Irvine & Dreghorn golfers

Wednesday 21 June 2023

Four intrepid golfers from Irvine & Dreghorn Brass have just completed a 40-round golf challenge to raise money to support their band’s trip to the National Finals in Cheltenham in September.

Over just three days, tuba player Steven Purrs, percussionist Jordan Dickson, band friend Simon Bertie and principal cornet Derek Leitch (pictured l-r below) have played some of the finest courses in the west of Scotland.

It is hoped that through donations and sponsorships the golfing quartet will have made a significant contribution to the £5000 or so the band has raised to date.

The golfers’ itinerary was:

Day 1

7am Loudoun Golf Club

12 noon Rowallan Castle GC

6pm Ballochmyle GC

Day 2

5am Turnberry Robert the Bruce course

10am Old Prestwick GC

2pm Western Gailes GC

6pm Glasgow Gailes GC

Day 3

7am Royal Troon Old Course

12.15pm Irvine GC Bogside

6pm Dundonald Links GC

For those members of the banding community who would like to salute this achievement, donations can be made via this link.
