Selkirk Silver plays for the Royals during visit to ancient burgh
Monday 10 July 2023Last Thursday (6 July) will remain etched in the memories of Selkirk Silver Band members following their participation in a very special Royal engagement.
The band was extremely honoured to play for HM King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their visit to the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk.
The musicians entertained the large gathering prior to the Royals’ arrival with some crowd-pleasing pieces followed by the whole magic of Common Riding favourites which, played quietly during the walkabout, proved challenging especially at the bass solos!
However, the band couldn’t let Flo’oers o’ the Forest go unheard as the King and Queen departed in their car, but not before they took time to meet conductor Colin Kemp and thank the band, congratulating them on becoming Scottish champions.
There was also some band banter chucked in: who knew that King Charles would know what an embouchure is?
This was one engagement that was thoroughly enjoyed by the Selkirk players – and it is certainly one for the band’s history books.
