Principal players take up their positions at NYBBS course

After their safe arrivals at Strathallan School and the smooth completion of registrations and room allocations yesterday, the 185 students attending this week’s National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer course got straight down to auditions for the seating positions in the Children’s, Reserve and Senior bands.

Tutors and musical directors were delighted with the high level of playing from all of the students this year.

The following players have been chosen to take up principal positions in the three bands:

Children’s Band 

Cornet: Isla Gillespie

Soprano: Lucy McFadzean

Flugel: Amy Fotheringham

Horn: Lewis Smith

Baritone: Emily Kroegler

Euphonium: James Barr

Trombone: Elise Hutchison

Bass trombone: Max Wardrope

Reserve Band

Cornet: Charlie Colville

Flugel: Cara McFadzean

Horn: Lille McLuskie

Sectional practice sessions and full rehearsals are now in full swing in preparation for Saturday’s end-of-course concerts in Perth Concert Hall.

One young player in the Children’s band, Samuel Dick (below), was overheard this morning, having just finished a rehearsal, saying to his tutor: “That was my first ever two-hour rehearsal, but it felt like it was only 15 minutes!”
