Selkirk trio rewarded for long service to brass bands

Tuesday 8 August 2023

Congratulations to three members of Selkirk Silver Band who were awarded Scottish Brass Band Association life membership medals at a concert in the town’s Victoria Hall in recognition of their long service to brass banding.

Second trombonist Ian Bradshaw originally joined Galashiels Town Band in 1957 until 1960. After a short break, in 1975 his eldest son took up playing and he joined Selkirk Silver.

Ian has been a constant presence with Selkirk since then as both a contesting and a non-contesting player to give younger members an opportunity of taking part in competitions.

Emma Scott joined Hawick Saxhorn Band at ten years old in 1983 on tenor horn. When she moved to Edinburgh to attend university in 1991 she joined the ranks of MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Band.

On returning to the Borders, first horn player Emma joined Selkirk Silver in 1998 and has remained until the present day.

Adrianne Robb started her brass banding career in 1979 with St Ronan’s Silver Band and stayed until 2002.  After a short spell with Dalkeith & Monktonhall she moved to MacTaggart Scott Loanhead in 2003.

Between 2006 and 2019 Adrianne returned to St Ronan’s and, for the past four years, she has been with Selkirk, playing front row cornet.
