Memorial concert will raise money for Women’s Aid

Monday 28 August 2023

An annual event which brings together three bands to celebrate the life of a former member who was tragically killed on her way home from a rehearsal over six years ago takes place next Sunday afternoon.

The annual Joan Price Memorial Concert – featuring Dunaskin Doon Band, Kilmarnock Concert Brass and Irvine & Dreghorn Brass – will be raising funds for East Ayrshire Women’s Aid.

The event will be held at the Kyle Academy in Overmills Road, Ayr, on Sunday 3 September at 2.30pm.

Trombonist Joan died in a car accident while on her way home from a Dunaskin band practice in 2017. Two teenagers were subsequently jailed for causing death by dangerous driving.

Speed cameras have since been installed along the stretch of A77 where Joan was killed, something her husband Colin had campaigned for.

The concert has become an annual fixture in the calendar of the three bands in which Joan played, not only to celebrate her life but also to raise funds for charity.

Tickets are priced at £10/8 payable at the door.
