Trombone star takes lead at IDB learning weekend

Friday 29 December 2023

Trombone virtuoso, educator and conductor Dr Brett Baker will be principal lead at an Irvine & Dreghorn Brass learning weekend on 13/14 January.

Brett will be working with IDB’s contest and youth bands and delivering performance workshops that are open to all brass players, including a ‘Trombone – Come and Play’ session to which trombone players from other bands are invited to join in.

The highlight of the weekend will be on the Saturday evening where the Black Dyke Band star will be the guest artist in a concert with the band.

“I am thrilled to be travelling back to Scotland to work with Irvine & Dreghorn Brass,” says Brett. ‘This will be the first time I have played in Ayrshire so the concert and learning weekend is a great start to the year.”

The band is grateful to Scops Arts Trust for its support of this event.

Irvine & Dreghorn Brass is looking forward to an exciting 2024 following its promotion of the contest band to the First Section.

The band is still keen to strengthen its team ahead of the Scottish Championships in March and would welcome enquiries from cornet players.
