New Year message from Carrie Boax

Dear band families and friends,
As I take time to consider the possibilities and opportunities that each New Year
brings, I hope that you have all enjoyed time during the festive period to relax;
spending a little quality time with your nearest and dearest family and friends.
Reflecting on the past 12 months (which have passed in the blink of an eye - a sign of
getting older, I realise!) I cannot help but feel very proud of all that the SBBA, our
regional organisations and local bands have achieved. In 2023 we certainly
witnessed a flourish of musical and brass activity take place the length and breadth
of the country.
Bands welcomed guest artists, new commissions were performed,
many of our competitions saw an increase in participation whether here in Scotland
or further afield at Whit Friday, in Blackpool, Birmingham, Cheltenham, Durham,
London, Malmo and some contests even returned to the calendar after the
pandemic, which was a very special milestone indeed! Can I personally thank
everyone who has made these events happen - whether as an organiser, player,
supporter or one of our amazing sponsors whose input is vital to ensure the future of
our movement is a bright one.
I have had the privilege to attend many contests and concerts both here and abroad -
reaffirming how proud I am as President of the Brass Band movement here in
Scotland. I look forward to having many more opportunities in 2024 to visit new
venues, make new memories and forge new friendships that will last a lifetime. My
only wish at this time is that those who we have sadly lost during this year were here
too.
Let’s continue to build on all of the positives of 2023, move forward with optimism
and excitement to share the passion we have for making music and promoting our
movement at every opportunity. Whilst we cannot predict what 2024 will bring, taking
this approach will ensure our movement continues to flourish.
Can I take the opportunity, on behalf of my own family and everyone at SBBA, to
wish you and your families a safe, healthy and happy New Year and hope that there
will be many opportunities to come together and make live music in 2024.
