Foodbank collections initiative has really taken off!

The National Foodbank Collection Appeal is really taking off among Scottish bands. Kirkton Brass Bathgate, Barrhead Burgh and Dysart Colliery Silver are the three latest organisations to join in the initiative that was proposed by Gareth Bowman, musical director of Coalburn Silver Band, following the launch of its second annual collection for the Clydesdale Foodbank.

It was at a weekend rehearsal for the Scottish Championships that members of Kirkton Brass Bathgate (below) brought along items for the West Lothian Foodbank. They also added to the collection at the following weekly Monday rehearsal in the Jim Walker Partnership Centre in Bathgate.

Band vice president Aileen Downs said: "I am very proud that both of our bands have been able to support such a worthwhile initiative."

At Barrhead Burgh Band, secretary Lisa Muir commented: “We only managed to get a collection tonight as our practice was cancelled last week due to the weather.

“All the food collected (below) will be dropped off to the East Renfrewshire Foodbank in Barrhead on Friday.”

Dysart Colliery Silver Band members have been happy to help support the Kirkcaldy Foodbank again as a group following on from the fundraising concert that was held for them last year.
