Border Reivers enjoy ‘greatest free show on earth’

Sunday 2 June 2024

The Border Reivers Band – a scratch band was made up of players from Hawick Saxhorn, Selkirk Silver, Galashiels Town, Peebles Burgh, Langholm Town, St Boswells and Jedforest Instrumental bands – enjoyed the “greatest free show on earth” at the Whit Friday marches.

The Reivers managed to visit five villages in the Saddleworth district, playing The Australasian march on the contest stage under the baton of musical director Stuart Black.

One result the band is particularly proud of came in the village of Lydgate, having been placed 19th out of 79 bands.

The band’s street march Rasputin kept the crowds suitably entertained long into the night with head torches needed for their final performance in Dobcross.
