D&M Brass in popular Fringe by the Sea festival

Friday 5 July 2024

Dalkeith & Monktonhall Band is appearing at the popular Fringe by the Sea festival in North Berwick on Wednesday 7 August in a concert that will be a fun and varied family-friendly show featuring pop, rock, jazz and the classics, conducted and hosted by musical director James Chamberlain.

The East Lothian band’s roots trace back to the local mining communities and the 1800s but suffered after the miners’ strike and closure of the pits. The Dalkeith and Monktonhall bands combined to form the D&M band in the 1980s.

James Chamberlain, a teacher of music and brass at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh, plays trumpet/flugel with Castle Brass. He has conducted the D&M brass band since 2005, guiding them to victory at the Scottish Championships.

The concert, entitled Brass by the Bass, is a seated event (unreserved), taking place at the Big Top, Lodge Grounds, between 7 and 8.30pm. Tickets are priced at £10/£6 (under 16s who must be accompanied by an adult).  The Big Top venue is wheelchair accessible.
