Peebles Burgh seeks new MD following Vaughan's farewell to UK

Tuesday 16 July 2024

The departure of musical director Vaughan Fleischfresser to Australia has meant that Peebles Burgh Silver Band is seeking a successor.

The Third Section band, based in Scottish Borders town of Peebles, rehearses on Monday and Thursday evenings.

At the latest Scottish Championships PBSB achieved a credible mid-table position with nine High School attendees in the contest band. Additionally, there is a thriving youth section with good potential growth for the future.

Currently a Teacher of Music at the Edinburgh Academy, Vaughan has most recently been the Teaching Fellow in Music Education at Edinburgh University. As well as conducting the Peebles band, he has been MD of the Edinburgh University Female Voice Choir.

Away from the classroom and podium, Vaughan is in high demand as an adjudicator and educational speaker.

“We’re very sorry to see Vaughan leave the UK to return to his native Australia and we wish him well for the future,” said Peebles Burgh Silver Band secretary Cliff Balson.

“The band has a good mix of engagements throughout the year – contests, concerts, Border festival events – and is a well-run charitable organisation. The celebrates its 190th annniversary this year and has an association with a music festival in Germany.”

Interested candidates should email Cliff in the strictest confidence at secretary.pbsb@gmail.com

The closing date for applications is Friday 16 August 2024.
