History for sale at Brass at the Park

Tuesday 13 August 2024

There was a slice of Scottish band history available to buy at the Brass at the Park event on Sunday.

Copies of the one and only vinyl LP to be recorded by The Kirkintilloch Band were available for a small donation. The recording of the band was made at the Henry Wood Hall in Glasgow on 9 November 1986.

Producer and engineer on the recording was Scottish Brass Band Association honorary vice president Peter Fraser MBE who was located at the entrance to the Brass at the Park marquee to sell the LPs for a contribution towards NYBBS and the bursary fund set up in Richard Evans’ name to support future summer course students.

The nine tracks on the record were conducted by Richard Evans and Alan Fernie. They were, on side A, The Australasian (W. Rimmer), Lloyd (Cuthbert Howard, arr Alan Fernie), Black and White Rag (George Botsford, arr Alan Fernie), O Holy Night (Adolphe Adam, arr Keith Wilkinson) and Prelude to a Festival (Alan Fernie).

On side B, the items were Skye Boat Song (arr Alan Fernie), Pageantry (Herbert Howells), Ne Andro Lontana (Alfredo Cantalani, arr Alan Fernie) and Special K, the Kirkintilloch signature tune (Alan Fernie).

All subsequent recordings by Kirkie have been pressed onto CDs.

Anyone wanting a copy of this piece of history should get in touch with Peter at fraserp3@virginmedia.com
