Applications now open for 8th European Conductors Competition 2025

Conductors are invited to apply for a place in the 8th European Conductors Competition, to be held in Stavanger, Norway, in 2025 as part of the 46th European Brass Band Championships.

The competition will take place in Kuppelhallen, Stavanger Concert Hall, from 4 to 8 May and will consist of two preliminary rounds and a final.

For the first round, the competitors will meet the 1st Section band Sola Brass Band. The professional sinfonietta Insimul will be the ensemble for the second round, and for the final the finalists will conduct the top section band Stavanger Brass Band.

Repertoire for the final is Fraternity (Thierry Deleruyelle), Catharsis (Kjetil Djønne) and Lowry Sketchbook (Philip Wilby). The prizes are 2500 Euros for 1st place, 1500 Euros for 2nd and 1000 for 3rd. There will be a 500 Euros band prize and a 500 Euros audience prize.

In addition, there will be special awards for those competitors who reach the final – a diploma and an invitation to a personal coaching lesson with one of the brass band movement’s most prominent conductors, Philip Harper.

Rules and invitation

Applicants must have been born on or after 1 January 1990 and are native to, or resident in EBBA member countries. Closing date for entries is 15 January 2025.
