Whitburn signs two new players ahead of National Finals

Whitburn Band has announced that it has signed two new players who will be performing at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain this weekend.

Olivia Beckett has joined the band's cornet section from Annan Town Band. A former member of Dumfries Town Band, she moved to Annan, where her mum and dad also play, and was appointed principal cornet aged 14.

She has competed with Annan at the National Finals in Cheltenham and at the European Championships and was named best cornet player at the Borders Entertainment Contest last year.

Emma Dunn has joined Whitburn’s percussion section. The second year BEd Music student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow had a spell with Johnstone Band.

She is a regular performer with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and in the musical theatre scene.
